Dynamic Assignment of Objects to Queuing Agents with Private Values

چکیده
This paper analyzes the optimal assignment of objects which arrive sequentially to agents organized in a waiting list. Applications include the assignment of social housing and organs for transplants. We analyze the optimal design of probabilistic queuing disciplines, punishment schemes, the optimal timing of applications and information releases. We consider three efficiency criteria: the vector of values of agents in the queue, the probability of misallocation and the expected waste. Under private values, we show that the first-come first-served mechanism dominates a lottery according to the first two criteria but that lottery dominates first-come first-serve according to the last criterion. Punishment schemes accelerate turnover in the queue at the expense of agents currently in the waiting list, application schemes with commitment dominate sequential offers and information release always increases the value of agents at the top of the waiting list. Dynamic Allocation of Objects to Queuing Agents: The Discrete Model
This paper analyzes the optimal allocation of objects which arrive sequentially to agents organized in a waiting list. Applications include the assignment of social housing, deceased donor organs and daycare slots. A mechanism is a probability distribution over all priority orders which are consistent with the waiting list. We consider three efficiency criteria: first order stochastic dominance...

Queuing theory in a very simple Definition is a branch of mathematics for analysis and management of waiting lines. It is developed in the first years of twentieth century when telephone waiting Lines were studied. Servers are not necessarily human beings but in queuing systems that human Agents are servers, it is possible to consider the queuing system as a dynamic system. This is because in ...

Rapid urban growth is resulting into increase in travel demand and private vehicle ownership in urban areas. In the present scenario the existing infrastructure has failed to match the demand that leads to traffic congestion, vehicular pollution and accidents. With traffic congestion augmentation on the road, delay of commuters has increased and reliability of road network has decreased. Four s...
متن کاملThe optimal warehouse capacity: A queuing-based fuzzy programming approach
Among the various existing models for the warehousing management, the simultaneous use of private and public warehouses is as the most well-known one. The purpose of this article is to develop a queuing theory-based model for determining the optimal capacity of private warehouse in order to minimize the total corresponding costs. In the proposed model, the available space and budget to create a...
متن کاملA heuristic method for consumable resource allocation in multi-class dynamic PERT networks
This investigation presents a heuristic method for consumable resource allocation problem in multi-class dynamic Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) networks, where new projects from different classes (types) arrive to system according to independent Poisson processes with different arrival rates. Each activity of any project is operated at a devoted service station located in a n...
